Neptune Middle School Competes at BPA State Conference
Neptune Middle School competed at the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference this past weekend, February 11-12, 2012. The conference was held at the Hilton Inn at the Walt Disney Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Neptune eighth grader, Isaac Candell, click for photo,competed and placed in four business technology areas: first place in Computer Literacy, second place in Spreadsheet Applications, second place in Business Math, and second place in Business Communications Skills. BPA’s objectives are to help students develop leadership, academic and technical skills for the workplace.
Neptune Middle School AVID Recruitment
Neptune Middle School is now accepting applications for their Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program for next school year. All three grade levels are welcome to apply; 6th 7th and 8th grades. AVID is a program that helps students to succeed in rigorous curricula, increases their opportunities to enroll in four-year colleges, and provides tutorial support and motivational activities.
All applications and student contracts must be turned in to Mrs. Butler, AVID Coordinator, in room 6003.
Positive Youth Development Program: Teaching, Empowering Neptune Middle School Students to Dream of, Plan for, and Achieve Future Success
The CHOICES Program, a partially grant-funded positive youth development program, is partnering with Neptune Middle School’s Family and Consumer Science classes to teach three-hundred sixth, seventh and eighth grade students how to plan for and achieve a positive and successful future. The Program’s mission is to help increase positive decision making, goal-setting, as well as college entry, workforce entry, family harmony, and teen success.
Through a combination of fun activities and demonstrations, group discussions, and hands-on application and personal work time, students are guided through a process of understanding self-worth and the concept of leaving a legacy, visualizing a positive self-future, developing a career and education plan, learning the importance of and process of setting and achieving goals, understanding the consequences of risk behaviors, learning how to create personal boundaries and pursue healthy relationships, avoiding peer pressure, and learning strategies for effective communication.
Neptune Middle School Student Competes in MC2
Eighth Grader, Jorge Casamiquela competed in the Osceola School District math competition. Jorge is in Mrs. Wagggoner’s gifted Algebra Honors class. He placed fourth in the eighth grade division for the competition.
Neptune Rewards Perfect Attendance for First Semester
All Neptune Middle School students, who had perfect attendance for the first semester, had their names placed in a drawing to win a bicycle. The following students’ names were drawn and they will receive a free bike:

8th grade – Conner Richards
Pasta for Pennies:
As of 2/10/12, Neptune Middle School has raised $1102.29 for the fundraising effort called Pasta for Pennies. Neptune has joined more than 25,000 schools nationwide in Olive Garden's Pasta for Pennies program benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For the month of February, teachers will have collection containers in their classrooms. The homeroom that collects the most money will be treated to a pasta, salad and breadstick luncheon provided by Olive Garden. Last year, Neptune was able to donate over $3.000.00 to this worthwhile cause. Checks are accepted and need to be made payable to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Neptune Middle School Needs Parent Chaperones for Enterprise Village Field Trip
The sixth grade students at Neptune Middle School will be visiting Enterprise Village March 5, 2012. Before visiting this economic hands-on education community, students will study financial and monetary concepts and develop a basic understanding of consumer planning, savings accounts, and decision-making processes. Neptune Middle School Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Neptune Middle on February 16th through the 24th. Parent volunteers are needed to assist with this event.
